Odessa Police Warning Public About Social Security Scam
The Odessa Police Department has recently received at least a dozen complaints in reference to a scam involving the Social Security Administration.
Citizens have reported receiving calls from someone claiming to be with the Social Security Administration stating that there has been fraudulent activity with their account. The caller then asks for the victim’s social security number in order to verify their account.
Odessa Police would like to remind the public that should someone receive a phone call, email, or text message from anyone claiming to work for the Social Security Administration to please not provide your social security number or any other personal information.
Instead citizens are encouraged to contact the Office of the Inspector General at 1-800-269-0271.
