Crime Statistics

Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) is a collective effort on the part of many law enforcement agencies to present a nationwide view of crime including:

• City
• County
• State
• Tribal
• Federal

Agencies throughout the country participating in the UCR Program provide summarized reports on eight Part I offenses known to law enforcement and reports on persons arrested. They also provide information about law enforcement officers killed and assaulted and on hate crime.

Odessa

The Odessa Police Department classifies and reports crime statistics according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Uniform Crime Report (UCR). Each month a report is prepared and submitted to the FBI, through the Texas Department of Public Safety (TXDPS) that reports offenses recorded at the Odessa Police Department. The FBI:

• Provides report forms, tally sheets, tally books, and self-addressed envelopes to these direct contributors (local agencies that do not have the benefit of a state program)
• Compiles, publishes, and distributes the data to participating agencies, state UCR Programs and others interested in the nation's crime data

The Odessa Police Department has teamed up with LexisNexis to provide easy to read crime maps and analysis. LexisNexis displays crime data to the public using the well known, intuitive mapping interface of Google Maps. Part I crime information which is displayed for the public includes:

• Street level address
